Playing with the AI Game Master

Let an AI run your table — it narrates, voices NPCs, rolls dice, tracks the battle map, and remembers the story. Tune its voice, length, dice, recap, and lore.

The AI Game Master lets a group start a campaign and play right away — no one has to prep or run the table. It narrates scenes, voices NPCs, adjudicates the rules, rolls dice, keeps the battle map in sync, and remembers your story.

How play works

  1. Start a session

The AI GM plays while a session is live. Start one from the campaign hub (who can is a setting).
  2. Describe what you do

Play unfolds in the campaign chat. Type what yourcharacter does in plain language — “I push open the tavern door and look around.” The GM only ever controls the world and NPCs, never your character.
  3. Let it resolve

The GM narrates the outcome, rolls when chance is involved (you'll see the roll and its result), looks up creature stats, and updates the map. When it needs a roll from you, use the dice roller — it pre‑fills the right dice and your character's modifiers.

AI credits

Each AI‑GM turn spends AI credits from the GM's balance (shared by the whole table). Your tier includes a monthly allowance — Apprentice 10, Adept 100, Archmage 250(Archmage also unlocks the more capable Sonnet model) — and the GM can buy top‑up packs. The hub shows “✨ N credits left”; when the balance runs out, play pauses until the GM tops up at Buy credits.

Two credit pools

AI‑GM turns (and the GM's recap/prep drafts) draw on the GM's credits. Personal AI features you trigger — the NPC generator and the Character Vault's flesh‑out/import — draw on your own credits.

Tuning the GM (settings)

A campaign admin can shape how the AI GM behaves in Campaign settings:

  • GM style & campaign context — a persona/tone, plus authoritative background/lore the GM treats as canon.
  • Reply length — terse, standard, or cinematic.
  • Dice modeauto (the GM rolls for players) or ask (it tells you what to roll and waits).
  • Recap cadence — auto‑summarize the story into the GM's memory every few turns (or off).
  • Voice — pick a narration voice; the GM can speak each reply automatically, or only when someone taps 🔊 Speak reply. There's also a live voice room for the table.

Mature content & safety

  • Mature (18+) tables — a GM can mark an AI campaign mature to allow dark themes, graphic violence, and strong language. See settings.
  • Always off‑limits — sexually explicit content, and anything sexual involving minors, is blocked on every table, with a safety screen on the GM's replies.
  • Minors override the rating — if a minor is at the table, content is kept strictly PG regardless of the mature toggle.
  • AI‑generated & imperfect — treat the GM as a creative storyteller that can get a rule or detail wrong; a human can take the reins anytime.
