Meeting in person safely
Simple habits for meeting new people at a session — especially self-hosted games at someone's home.
Most Waypoint games are with people you haven't met yet — that's the fun of it. A few simple habits keep first meetups relaxed and safe.
Before you go
- Check who you're meeting.Look at the host's profile, reviews, and organizer score. A Verified badge means they've confirmed their email; a New badge means the account is recent.
- Tell a friend.Share the session's time and place with someone you trust, and when you expect to be home.
- Keep the conversation on Waypoint until you've met — our messaging tools let you ask questions first.
Self-hosted games at a home
Some sessions are hosted at a member's home rather than a public venue. The exact address is only shared with confirmed attendees — everyone else sees an approximate area on the map. If meeting at a private home feels like too much for a first meetup, it's completely fine to look for a game at a public venue instead, or suggest meeting the host in a public place beforehand.
At the meetup
- Arrive on your own transport so you can leave whenever you want.
- Trust your gut — if something feels off, you don't owe anyone an explanation.
- Keep your phone charged and reachable.
